May 2001

Society for Pediatric and

Perinatal Epidemiologic Research

Presidents Corner

Our annual meeting is set for June 12-13, 2001 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We invite all members to attend. The meeting will last half a day longer than last year.

This year, we had a record number of abstracts submitted for review. There is great depth in the quality of the material that will be presented. This reflects the diversity and strength of the research done by the members of the organization. The competition for the student papers was also intense. We have a lot to be proud of, but much also remains to be accomplished.

I wish to thank the officers who have served the organization in the past several years. Our sincere appreciation and thanks to our out-going Secretary, Suzan Carmichael. We will surely miss her.

We welcome the incoming officers and wish them well.

Once again I appeal to members to volunteer to serve the organization, as officers or committee members. The reward is substantial and the pain, minimal.

See you in Toronto.

Edem Ekwo, MD, MPH
La Rabida Children’s Hospital & Research Center, Chicago

About Toronto...

City of Toronto skyline at dusk

More than 200 years ago, the northern banks of Lake Ontario were known to the Huron people as Toronto, a word in their language that meant "meeting place." It's an appropriate name for one of the most culturally diverse cities in North America. Check out these sites for more information about Toronto:
